Mae Young! We love her. It doesn’t matter what she does! This badass woman has done some of the weirdest things we’ve seen in WWE television. She likes to give birth and flash people! The latter being the reason she’s the only wrestler I can do an impression of. A very good impression, I might add!

Let’s hope you don’t have half the weirdness this year that Mae Young has brought us for many years. Or, maybe an even weirder year if you’re into that sort of thing! I just hope this old broad is around to give us even more craziness in 2013!

ETA: CM Punk himself is saying he didn’t tweet them. Saying he hasn’t tweeted in 3 days. Along with calling fans stupid, morons, and criticizing their spelling. Which…ya know…anti-bullying! But tweet doesn’t have blue check verifier, and some fans of notifications on his account and didn’t receive one. Though if you’re just screencapping an individual tweet the blue check might not show up. But, no notification means false alarm! Sad, actually. Lots of hits on the blog for this–so people want to believe he said it.

Wrestling as seen in other media is a funny thing. It really shows how much pro-wrestling has influenced our culture as Americans. It also shows the biases about wrestling itself within our culture.

This clip is from the movie Shrek, obviously…as you can tell from the giant green ogre.

What’s interesting about this clip, is that it’s generally thought to be a “badass” part of the movie and quite a humorous part as well. But, this comes from many people, many of which I bet would probably not watch WWE or other wrestling programming to see these moves in person. Yet, here they are, loving it in this movie because the medium that the wrestling is presented through is different. You are permitted to like this…you aren’t shamed for liking CGI cartoons.

Another aspect are the moves themselves. We see tombstones, chair shots, hulking up, taunts, tag team action…and we as a culture know this is wrestling. The Tombstone is The Undertaker, a legendary move…that’s why it’s in this movie. Hulking Up is something that Hulk Hogan does, a legendary figure…that’s why it’s in this movie. Wrestling fan or not, it’s permeated the culture so much that we get it even without having seen it in person.

It makes you wonder how many people would be wrestling fans if there wasn’t such a stigma attached to being a wrestling fan?

By the way, the woman at 1:00 mark saying “The chair! Give him the chair!” …would totally be me.

I know I just posted an “Ok, I accept Cena” video yesterday, but I still find this hilarious. Enjoy! Happy Saturday!

My video about finally coming to an understanding of not only Cena’s character, but the reason Cena is popular and the reason Cena is needed in wrestling and in media at large. I stopped watching wrestling in 2007 because of Cena’s Superman, boy scout, gimmick–so this video was sort of a closure for me.

What I forgot to say in this video was that I wish that WWE/Cena would stop the occasional instances where Cena is bullying people. The “Hoeski” Incident, for example. Just stupid. Stop it now. You can’t have Cena be the head of the anti-bullying campaign and then have him bully folks. Doesn’t work that way.

But, I see why he’s needed…and I think he’s actually a pretty great role model for kids–inside the ring and seemingly out. And I’m ok with that.

Plus, y’all know I love a WWE montage! Effing christ they’re so good…

Hours of yelling, and bumping elbows, and re-enacting the matches (Leg drop from the top bunk!), and throwing controllers, and maybe even some cussing under our breaths when we lost. But, we had a grand old time in that cramped little room! It was not only one of my first wrestling memories, but it’s also the first memory I have of playing a video game. And one of my most treasured memories of my cousins.

What got me thinking about all this was running across this old post from The 8-Bit Animal featuring some of his favorite retro wrestling games!

Coincidentally, another one of my favorite wrestling games is on this list. Smackdown 2: Know Your Role was the first wrestling video game I ever owned. I would be The Rock, and everyone would know their roles, and shut their mouths!

My favorite by far though was Smackdown! Just Bring It. My CAS was the hottest bitch around, and she came out to Trish Stratus’ “Whiplash” theme and teased all the boys! And then proceeded to layeth the smackdown on HHH’s candy ass!

Video games give us an opportunity to not only expand our fandom, but to pretend to be part of it. Most of us will never be pro wrestlers, the closest we can get are these video games. To Create-A-Superstar is to live out the dreams of your youth. Even if I can never get my nose quite right. It curves down just slightly, damnit. Slightly!

But nevermind my nose woes.
